  Dear Rev. Eugene Thalman,

  I am writing to you in order to arouse your concern to the issue of the detention of Mr. Liu Shan Qing in China.

  Mr. Liu was an activist since he was a student and had showed a deep devotion to the poor people and their struggle for justice and rights. He was arrested on the Christmas of 1981 while he was travelling in Canton for the sake of visiting the relatives of the detained activists of the democratic movement in China. Then, he was charged with 'promoting counter-revolutionary propaganda' and was convicted with a sentence of 10 years.

  Rev. Francesco Mella, P.I.M.E., had launched a hunger strike in order to seek for a wider support of the demand for an earlier release of Mr. Liu, and he is success in getting the support of 24 local religious, student and grassroot groups.

  On behalf of the 24 local concern groups, I write to you to seek for you concern and support about this issue. You can support Mr. Liu and our demand for earlier release by means of prayers and any other concrete actions.

  Our further actions are to seek for more wider support in the international and local levels. Furthermore, we will send a delegation to Canton to ask for the result of our application for earlier release. This application had been sent to the Guangzhou Intermediate People's court.
