八個宗教團體請願

甘神父在九月份組織了八個團體上書，我的資料夾有一份應是他手改的英文稿件，沒有日期。 (第一頁，第二頁)

  REQUEST FOR THE RELEASE OF MR. LIU SAN QING

  Hong Kong resident Mr. Liu San Qing, now 31 years old, graduated from Science Faculty of the University of Hong Kong. Originally a computer sales engineer, was arrested by the Chinese Security Office when touring to Guangzhow on December 25, 1981.

  At first, the Security Office refused to disclose the reasons for his arrest, until later it was known that Mr. Liu was arrested under criminal law article 102 for counter-revolutionary activities, sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment and deprived of 3 years' political freedom.

  The event caused great sensation in Hong Kong and abroad, and it  was generally acknowledged that he was arrested without adequate (giver evidence and with excessive sentence. Recently, eight Hong Kong organisations have endorsed a letter and endorse to the People's Court of Canton, to China News Agent, and to Mr. Ji Peng Fei, the head of the Hong Kong and Macau Affair Office. To date, no reply has been received.

    For the last 3 years, Mr. Liu was allowed communication with his family in Hong Kong once every 3 months. The letters were normally short and Mr. Liu mentioned that everything was fine in prison. According to Mr. Liu's father who paid him a visit to the prison in rural Guangzhou a few months ago, it is believed that Mr. Liu is still imprisoned there.

    As a member of the Hong Kong Society, we hope to express our opinions of the case:

1.   Not a serious case, yet excessive penalty

  It is understood that Mr. Liu only expressed his genuine concern for the future of the democratization of the People's Republic of China and was concerned about the family of the political prisoners. It is a bit too much to sentence him to 10 years' imprisonment and deprive him of 3 years' political rights.

2.  Changing society, not counter-revolutionary

   In fact, Mr. Liu was a social activist who had joined the work of teaching in a laborer’s night school, supported the Jubilee Secondary School teachers and students struggling for return to original school, supported the Yaumati boat people pleading for moving on land. All this evidence was seem to us quite adequate to justify our conviction that Mr. Liu had been striving for the betterment of society. It is, therefore, totally out of character that he should have committed any counter-revolutionary crimes.  3. Requesting for amnesty after 3 years' imprisonment

  Up to the present, Mr. Liu has been deprived of 3 years' freedom. Even if he had committed a small crime, he should have been released now. Beyond the criminal laws itself, article 102 is equivocal. We request that the Chinese Government grant an amnesty to Mr. Liu as soon as possible, so that he can reunite with his family and continue his meaningful social commitment.
